Litchfield Unit 12 Schools offers a free “at risk” early childhood program for qualified three and four year olds and their families. The program is specially funded to serve children residing in the Litchfield School District. To determine eligibility, children are screened in the spring, in the fall, and when a wait list warrants screening.
Sessions are 2hrs 45m in length, five days a week during the course of the school year. AM and PM sessions are available. Teachers use a researched based, play-based, child centered curriculum (Creative Curriculum) and are guided by the Illinois Early Childhood Learning Standards and the ECERS.
Initial placements are made based on student need. Students showing the most need based on scores from screening are placed first while other children remain on a wait list until openings are available. Session time and teacher requests are considered, but are not guaranteed.
